If you read our past blog that talked about how when life gives you lemons, you go to a winery; you’ll remember that Shannon and I visited Salted Vines vineyard in Delaware a few weeks ago. Well, we loved it so much that we decided to go back, but with a twist – we were attending an event called Sipping with Sloths, and we brought our moms along with us!

Sipping with Sloths is a partnership event between Barn Hill Preserve of Delaware and Salted Vines. Barn Hill Preserve focuses on educating people about conservation and certain animals, focusing on providing interaction with animals in a manner that’s safe for the animals and the people, too. Sipping with Sloths is a great event for those who want to support conservation, love animals, and love wine! The ticket included a tasting, cheese and crackers, and some time with the three sloths the staff of Barn Hill Preserve brought with them. It’s been a huge hit, with most of the events selling out within 2 hours of tickets opening up for sale. More dates have been announced, so you can check for ticket availability here if you’re in the Maryland/Delaware area!

We all met at Salted Vines and sat at our table for four. Salted vines is an adorable winery situated off the beaten path from Rehobeth Beach. It’s small, but incredibly charming and has a very classic aethestic and relaxing. The event took place out on the patio, which is perfectly lit with café lights that provide a magical setting for the night!

Once we sat, the four of us chose which wines we were tasting as we waited for our turn with the sloths. I selected the following wines for my tasting:

· Reflections 2019 – semi dry, and crisp – slightly fruit forward and refreshing, and my favorite of the night!

· Bramble Nectar 2019 – for me, this one was a little overpoweringly sweet, but tasty

· Red Sangria Slushy – YES THEY HAVE SLUSHIES, and they are AMAZING. World stopping and earth shattering. Do not go there and not order a wine slushy!!!

· Ambrosia 2019 – fruit forward, pleasant and subtle flavor

I think everyone’s favorite is the wine slushies – they are delicious, sweet but not hurt-your-teeth sweet, and just incredibly enjoyable. We highly recommend – no, request – that you order one!

Finally, it was our table’s turn with the sloths! I don’t think I can accurately describe how excited our group was to get to hold (in a basket) and feed the different sloths. There were many squeals and smiles through the entire encounter, and as we took pictures and watched the sloths hang upside-down (they do EVERYTHING upside down!). They were snacking on zucchini the entire time, and seemed curious about everything around them. Barn Hill did a great job at answering all our sloth questions (we had many) and let us have as many pictures as we wanted. It was an incredible experience!

All in all, sloths and wine make a perfect pairing: you’ve got a sweet and cute animal, and an enjoyable glass of wine. Can you describe a better evening?

Have you ever met a sloth or visited Salted Vines winery? Let us know!

Cheers,

Tara
