Brews in a Yurt

This past Valentines Day was a bit different from last year. With COVID restrictions many wineries, cideries and breweries are trying to come up with a safe but unique experience to attract their customers and bring in revenue. We have seen new ideas like wine tents and igloos, but I have never heard of a yurt. Andrew's friend told him that Waredaca Brewing Company in Gaithersburg, MD has a Yurt experience that he thinks we would love. For those who do not know what a yurt is, it is a large round tent.

I do have to admit I am not a beer girl, but I am always up for a fun outing with friends. At the brewing company, they mostly had beers, but I did find a nonalcoholic hot apple cider. This was better then any other drink I could want at the time because we are outside in a tent with little heat so I was in heaven when I got that warm cup.

As we were driving to get to the brewery, we passed several large houses and ended up pulling into a horse farm that the brewery was located on. We stepped outside to this rustic snowy wonderland with a village of tents. I was in awe with all the bistro lighting and how the snow was gently on the trees. It was truly a beautiful sight.

We were given Yurt #2, All Yurts come with a firepit which was perfect because it had just snowed a couple days prior and was still very cold. They did advertise heated yurts which they did have a small heater above us but as the day went on, that heater was no longer helping. These yurts usually book for two hour reservations, but we had a four hour reservation. This was a lot of fun, but I suggest that if you do get a yurt with friends, book a four hour reservation on a warmer day. Inside the yurt was a picnic table decorated with burlap and greenery.
The group I went with ordered IPAs, Farm to Charm and a Grandpa Beecher. They did not have one that they didn't like. My friend Nancy ordered a Toasty Pony which came out with a toasted marshmallow on top. It looked so good and she agreed that it was as good as it looked. Andrew's favorite was a beer and cider mix called Orchard Series Vol 2. He really enjoyed it and debated on getting a couple bottles to go. To order drinks you put a flag outside the tent and a staff member comes to take your order. The girl who was helping us was so accommodating and helpful as was the rest of the staff. They were truly great!

Later in the day we decided we needed a sweet treat so we ordered a smores kit. Our group was all by the fire making smores and trying to stay warm. All in all, I would highly suggest going to this brewing company and renting a yurt. It was definitely a fun and different experience to do with friends.
Cheers,
Shannon
