Tara and I decided we needed a wine day with our husbands, so we did just that! We ventured out to Big Cork Vineyards in Western Maryland. Tara and I loved the modern décor elements of the gray wood bar, cork stools and overall bright atmosphere. We reserved the big tasting that includes 6 wines; 2019 Chardonnay, 2019 Viognier, 2017 Barbera, 2018 Cabernet Franc, 2017 Petit Verdot and 2019 Russian Kiss.

My favorite was the 2019 Chardonnay as it was very light and had notes of granny smith apples. I bought a bottle to take home and can't wait to pop that bottle. Andrew's favorite was the Port wine that had strong notes of raspberries. Tara and Paul liked a bunch of the wines, but their favorite ended up being the 2019 Viognier which had citrus notes. This wine pairs well with roasted chicken.

The 2017 Barbera is a light medium body wine with tones of spicy plum, cherry, and raspberries. This wine will pair well with pasta. I gave this wine 3.5/5. The 2018 Cabernet Franc had aromas of pepper and dark fruit. I gave this wine a 3.5/5 as well. The 2019 Russian Kiss was the wine I was looking forward to the most but ended up being my least favorite wine. This wine had notes of florals and honeydew melon. This is a summer wine that pairs well with spicy foods. I gave this wine a 2/5. I did really like most of the wines at this winery and would recommend it.

I highly suggest booking a tasting since their COVID restrictions set in place only allow you to buy bottles and not glasses. I liked that we had a chance to try different wines before selecting which bottle to buy for the table.

After the tasting we did need to move to another area, but tables their fill up quickly. The staff was so kind to find us a table near by our original spot. I cannot say enough kind words on how welcoming and accommodating the staff was at Big Cork. Tara and Paul bought a bottle of 2019 Viognier for the table. Andrew and I had bought fresh baked bread and white cheddar gruyere from the winery and we were not disappointed. I would also highly recommend getting the bread and cheese with a bottle of wine. This combination was heavenly.

The last thing I would recommend at this winery is to buy the bougie hot chocolate candle. I walked passed the candle table and noticed that one of the candles had the word "bougie" on it and I was instantly intrigued. I opened the top to find gold glitter on the top of the candle and the smell of hot chocolate was just divine. I had to get it and I don't regret it.

Overall this winery is an absolute gem and a must go to. Go to Big Cork Vineyards and "drink wine, eat bread and buy the candles!"

Cheers,

Shannon
